LO1 P2: plan a shoot
The purpose of my photographs of Doncaster will be to show the beauty that is contained in the town and how it can be found even through the bad things people see. My photography will show how people should see Doncaster and how people should open their eyes to the beauty that is contained in the negatives in Doncaster, I will be doing this through making my images blurry and abstract, this will allow me to take photographs of anywhere with anyone in the photographs this means that the photos will become a mystery to the audience yet also seen as beautiful for behind the photographs may be a miserable photograph or a bright photograph with a dark image contained. The purpose of my photography is based off the brief of ‘beautiful Doncaster,’ which includes portraits, landscapes, abstract and urban shots of the local area, I will be taking and editing a total of 10 photographs for a portfolio. This project has been commissioned through the local council meaning we have permission to take photographs as long as we follow the laws and take consideration for the ethics, health and safety involved in the hooting of the photographs and the editing sector of the images.
These are some photographs that I will be using as inspiration for my photographs from Allen Humphris that I will be taking.
Some ideas of photographs I will be taking and the locations + lens sizes + equipment
- For all my photographs I will be using a cannon camera because they are high quality cameras that can have the settings on them changed, they also can have different attachments being lenses that I can further use to improve my photographs. I will be using a mixture of portraiture, landscape and fisheye lenses to capture my photographs, I will use a portraiture lens if there is a character in the photograph that will be a silhouette, I will use the landscape or fisheye lens if there is more scenery that is being captured in the photograph to show how certain scenes can have more going on in them than others.
1) a person stood in the left side of the frame fully black, with back towards camera, near water fountain, portrait angle, water fountain sprayed upwards 15-18mm cannon camera, portraiture lens
2) few people stood together and two sat down near the graffiti wall, backs to cameras apart ones on the floor, landscape angle 15-18mm fisheye or landscape lens cannon camera
3) someone walking down an old aisle way or path holding a black umbrella walking away from the camera shot from a distance 8mm portraiture lens cannon camera
4) quarry woods, two people at top of a hill in woods, one sat, one stood, low angle, distance, people small, (biking ditch area), trees and nature being around image as main focal points, greens from trees enhanced and brushed over everything 15-18mm or 50mm cannon camera portraiture lens
5) Photo of a moving train, blurred, multiple shots so its moved distance in the shot and people are getting on, wide angle 15-18mm cannon camera fisheye lens or landscape lens
6) photo through a pair of colorful and fun sunglasses of Frenchgate, glasses held up showing half the title sign, black and white apart from the glasses, full image blurred like others. 15-18mm standard lens cannon camera portraiture lens
7) 2nd part of quarry woods, tunnel part of woods, silhouette of person walking in middle of the tunnel, shot taken mid way walking in distance. 15-18mm landscape lens or fisheye cannon camera
8) Photo of garden from roof, birdeseye view looking above garden showing the pond and one of the dogs walking around and drinking from the pond. 15-18mm cannon camera fisheye lens
9) underview of a tree that is interesting, with an interesting sky occurring at the same time, blurred red focused sky. 8mm portraiture lens cannon camera
10) train station water fountain or inside the train station, focus on the wording on the screens or the water on the fountain and blur everything around it. 15-18mm or 50mm portraiture lens cannon camera
Model release
The law of model release will be considered during taking my photographs, I will be considering this legal constraint to ensure that I ask for permission from any model that I use in my photographs. This will be done to ensure that the images I take oblige by the laws of people and I respect the idea of people not wanting to be photographed and to respect peoples privacy.
Ethics
During taking these photographs I will be considering the idea of how taking photos of minors is against ethical photography and can be seen as a wrong thing to do even if it is in public. I will also be considering the thought of not taking photographs how Bruce Gilden did because he photographer people whilst they walked by him in busy streets, this was dreamed disrespectful and had a creepy, unsettling sight to it from his choice of photography. To avoid there being any issues with he public I will be mindful and kind towards people whilst I take photographs and be polite and ask them if they mind being photographed and if they do then I will kindly ask them to stand out the way of the photograph.
UK law photography
When I take my photographs I will be following the UK law photography rules meaning I am allowed to take photographs of anyone including children in public places as long as they are not deemed private land or in an inappropriate place such as through someone’s window. From knowing these laws it means I can use this information and take natural none staged photographs to improve my photography skills.
Models and resources
For my photographs I will be using models of people that I know such as friends, I will be doing this to ensure that I can communicate to the person about what I want them to do and make sure that they are comfortable with the photographs being taken. This will also allow me to gather permission from the people to take multiple photographs and use them for my course work and further be shown to others. The resources I will be using for my photographs will be minimal, for example I will be using a pair of red sunglasses that I have from home, I will be using this prop because it will give colour definition to the photograph and improve its quality. To edit my photographs I will be using software such as Adobe Lightroom, I will using this software because it is easier to use and it is professional software to edit photographs. When taking my photographs I will be taking them in a RAW format, I will be doing this because this format is used because it offers more of a creative, processing and flexibility on the photograph, this format is also considered better for it is easier to edit unlike a JPEG image for they are formatted to come out as 'good-looking' photographs straight from the camera.
All my locations are not private areas so I will be able to take my photographs without any issues of asking for permission to take photographs on the areas.
